Murchison Consulting Secures Important Victories at Long Beach City Council, Planning Commission

Long Beach, CA -- Murchison Consulting clients, the Home Depot and Orange Rocket, had projects approved by the Long Beach City Council and Long Beach City Planning Commission, respectively, this month. Both wins ensure Long Beach residents, businesses and visitors better retail and financial options throughout the City.

The council voted 6-3 Tuesday in favor of certifying the environmental impact report for the $21.5 million project at the intersection of Studebaker Road and Loynes Drive. In another motion, council members voted 7-2 to approve a site plan review and conditional use permit for the project, which includes a 137,000-plus-square-foot Home Depot and Garden Center, an 8,000-plus-square-foot restaurant with outdoor dining and 12,000 square feet of additional retail space.

“As a nearby resident of the proposed Home Depot, I was thrilled to be part of a project that is estimated to generate for the City of Long Beach $500,000 from sales taxes and $100,000 from property taxes. We read everyday how Long Beach loses good cops to neighboring, higher paying areas. It’s projects like these that could make the difference in keeping Long Beach’s finest right where they belong,” said Mike Murchison, President of Murchison Consulting.

In addition, Murchison Consulting secured a win at the Long Beach City Planning Commission for its client, Orange Rocket. The facility will be located at 6640 Cherry Avenue in the 9th District. A Gardena-based company, Orange Rocket was founded in 2002 and engages in payday lending, check cashing, money transfer, money orders, bill pay, prepaid services, and other ancillary services required by the market.

“Alternative financial centers like Orange Rocket provide needed services for a variety of clientele,” said Murchison. “I am pleased we were able to work with the 9th District Councilmember and the neighborhood groups to make this a win-win for everyone. Orange Rocket intends to be a good corporate citizen and active community participant in North Long Beach.”

Murchison Consulting 2006 Mid-Year Report

Dear Clients and Friends,

It’s been another successful year at Murchison Consulting. We are excited to share some of our achievements since our last report in June 2005.

CHAMP CAR WORLD SERIES

In 2006, Murchison Consulting launched our 2nd annual Champ Car Driver Outreach and Education program during the 2006 Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Thousands of Long Beach elementary and middle school students (and a few lucky teachers) had an opportunity to meet their favorite Champ Car drivers. Champ Car driver Andrew Ranger’s visit to Roosevelt Elementary School was front page news during the Long Beach Press Telegram’s coverage of race week.

LONG BEACH ART EXCHANGE

Murchison Consulting client Williams and Dame was one of two firms short-listed by the City of Long Beach and the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency to develop the Art Exchange block in downtown Long Beach. The Williams and Dame design supports a mix of residential and retails uses, with the Art Exchange block as the project’s core.

PARSONS WATER AND INFRASTRUCTURE (PWI)

The County of Los Angeles Sanitation Department has awarded Murchison Consulting client, PWI, the preliminary engineering contract to construct the County’s proposed $750 million Joint Water Pollution Control Plant project.

TRANS SYSTEMS/CONCEPT MARINE ASSOCIATES
Murchison Consulting represents Trans Systems, the construction management firm selected by the City of Long Beach to refurbish the Los Alamitos Bay Marina. In addition, the firm was selected by the City as an “as-needed” consultant for various public works projects.

NEW CLIENTS

Murchison Consulting is proud to represent several new clients since our last report, including Auburn Partners, Coldwell Banker, Edgewater Spa, Home Depot, the Long Beach Grand Prix, the Long Beach Hospitality Alliance (including Ensemble Partners, Hyatt, Marriott, and Hilton Hotels), Sares Regis, United Steel and Williams and Dame.

We are committed to making 2006 an even better year for our clients and valued friends. Enjoy the summer and best wishes.

Sincerely,

Mike Murchison
